The Grant Celebration
takes place each year on the last weekend in April. The weekend is full of excitement,
with many things to do and see. This year we were taken back in time as shop
owners and citizens, dressed in period clothing played out a scene set in July 1863.
The scene took place on Georgetown's Main Street. We watched as John Morgan
and his raiders attacked bystanders, stole from shop owners, and threatened the lives
of Georgetown citizens.
Other events
of the day included a Civil War Ladies Tea, a battle reenactment, and later a Civil
War Ball. Spectators were also guests at an era wedding which took place on
the fairgrounds.
On Sunday,
as the celebration continued, there was a memorial service, a battle reenactment,
and a closing ceremony at Grant's boyhood home.
During the
entire weekend, there was a Civil War encampment and a Civil War museum open at the
fairgrounds.
