Featuring Morgan's Raid and the Battle of Buffington Island

Morgan's Raiders return to Georgetown to commemorate the 141st Anniversary of the "Longest Raid. 
The 2003 event was spectacular!

The schedule for 2004 follows:

Saturday, April 24, 2004

7:30 to 9:00 AM                  Registration for Freedom Run 5K-10K (run starts at 9:00). Sponsored by                                                        Brown Co. General Hospital Foundation. Contact Teresa Robinson at 937-                                                 378-7547.   

9:30 AM                                Parade to U.S. Grant Homestead.

10:00 AM                              Opening ceremonies at Grant Homestead, comments by Gen. U.S. Grant.

10:30 AM                              Entertainment begins at the Courthouse

11:00 - 12:00                       Morgan's Raiders invade Georgetown!  One hour reenactment on                                                                    Courthouse square. Citizen participation. Donations appreciated.

All of the following events are at the Brown County Fairgrounds, an easy walk from the Courthouse.  Shuttle transportation available. Food available. 

General Admission to the Fairgrounds - Adults $3.00.  Students free.                                                                                                   

Saturday AM     Civil War Encampment, Civil War Sutlers, Parnell's Traveling Civil War Museum                                       open at the Civil War encampment area.

12:30 PM                Artillery demonstration and cannon firing.

1:00 PM                      Cavalry drill, bayonet drill, and Civil War music begin in the parade area. Living                                          histories begin.

2:00 PM                Troop review and pre-battle description of Morgans Raid begins in the                                                         reenactment area. Seating available shuttles to the area available. Grand Review                                       of troops.

4:00 PM                     Ladies Period Tea at Floral Hall on the fairgrounds. Costumes not required.                                               Cosmetics in the early 1800s and how they are prepared is the topic. Period music.

7:00 PM                      Carriage Rides to Grand Ball in the Floral Hall on the fairgrounds.

8:00 PM                       *Grand Ball in the Floral Hall on the fairgrounds. Costumes required.                                               Tickets  $10/adult & $5/children under 12. Shuttle tours of encampment.  If you                                          arent attending the ball, join others outside the Floral Hall to see the guests arrive.                                       Shuttle tours of the encampment area available.

Sunday, April 25, 2004

9:00 AM                      Civil War encampment, Parnell Civil War Museum and sutlers open.

10:00 AM                      Memorial Service at the Old Cemetery adjacent to the Fairgrounds.

1:00 PM                  Infantry firing and cavalry competition at the parade area on the Fairgrounds.

2:00 PM                 Pre-battle briefing and battle reenactment.

3:00 PM                 Grand Review of Troops by Lt. General U.S. Grant and General Robert E. Lee.

Special Attractions: Self-guided tours of Georgetown's historic sites. U.S. Grant Homestead & Schoolhouse; U.S. Grant Memorabilia Display; U.S. postage stamp cancellation & special envelope.
